Horse racing is an economic engine for our state, creating tens of thousands of jobs and generating billions in revenue.
Philanthropy
Student scholarships for the children of backstretch workers, with more than $1.7 million helping 530 students attend college. Day care for the younger children of workers. ESL classes and book groups. Healthcare clinics, a weekly food bank and a clothing store. Computer literacy classes and holiday celebrations for the kids.
Backstretch organizations are dedicated to supporting the lives of workers in the racing industry and their families by providing healthcare as well as mental health, medical and housing assistance, and more. No issue is too small in supporting these workers – the heart and soul of the New York racing community.
OUR IMPACT
New York’s horse racing industry provides jobs and supports families. Farmers, breeders, trainers, veterinarians, local small business owners, union workers, racetrack employees and more all contribute to New York Horse Racing. The impact of our industry is felt far beyond the 11 racetracks that exist in New York State.
